MC G.L.O.B.E. & MC Sha-Rock

“Scratches, Cuts, and the MCs Rhymes”

While the world celebrates 50 years of Hip Hop culture, it’s important not to overlook the 40th anniversary of G.L.O.B.E. & Whiz Kid's - Play That Beat Mr. D.J., one of the first 'call and response' records between a DJ & MC, and probably the most important DJ/MC cut in Hip Hop culture.

'Play That Beat' was released on Tommy Boy records in September of '83. That same year, Whiz Kid also featured along-side MC Sha-Rock as DJ for the Funky Four Plus One. Just one month after the release of Play That Beat, Tommy Boy placed an advert in Billboard Magazine, announcing their “Down By Law – Switch The Licks - Mastermix Contest!”, where DJ's were asked to submit a custom mix of "Play That Beat", which could also include songs from past and present. The winners of the contest would receive $100, a Tommy Boy t-shirt, a copy of all Tommy Boy releases to date, and have their mix released on vinyl, via New York's, Disconet Program Service. On November 30th it was announced, that of the 75 entries submitted, the judges had chosen an entry entitled The Payoff Mixby Double Dee & Steinski. The rest is history!

To mark the occasion, Bronx giants MC G.L.O.B.E. & MC Sha-Rock have joined forces for the first time ever with a recording to take Hip Hop fans back to its roots. Scratches, Cuts and the MCs Rhymes. To add to the excitement, Resume Recordings have hosted a remix contest where DJ’s from across the globe were invited to remix - Scratches, Cuts and the MCs Rhymes. This time, Double Dee & Steinski would pick the winning mixes.

Resume Recordings are delighted to present the result, RR001. A six track 12” single, featuring remixes from the top three entries, as chosen by Double Dee & Steinski. With a snow white platter of cuts and inspiring sleeve art celebrating its players, Scratches, Cuts and the MCs Rhymes is a window into the golden era of Hip Hop music. A time when Scratches, Cuts and the MCs Rhymes were all you needed to get by.
